Good health with pecans
Over the last 30 years the demand for pecans and pecan products has increased in line with growing global health awareness. Southern African production has the advantage of being in-season during northern hemisphere peak demand. Surrey has 50 hectares of established pecan orchards with the nuts being harvested annually between April and June. We have bulk drying facilities and a commercial pack house where product is processed to order. Shelled and unshelled nuts are sold both locally and internationally. We have a commercial pecan nursery supplying 3-year old variety grafted trees. We are focused on pecan nut production becoming a national Zimbabwean industry. We are transitioning to organic certification through Ecocert.

Balu pecans
Surrey is involved with Balu Pecan and Livestock Company. This project is in Matebeleland. To date 450 hectares of pecans have been planted. We also have 158 hectares of lucerne under pivot. Our target being on the establishment of a large pecan tree plantation for the production of pecan nuts. Whilst the focus is on the production of pecans, the project is to be augmented with an extensive cattle project and shorter-term export crops which will supplement the working capital and funding requirements.
